What we collect

SpellSpark uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool, self-hosted on analytics.mantell.com.au. For each visit, the following anonymous, aggregated information is recorded:

• The page you visited
• The page that referred you (if any)
• Your browser and operating system
• Your device type (desktop, tablet, mobile)
• Your country, derived from your IP address
• Clicks on outbound links

No cookies are set, no personal data is collected, and no information is shared with third parties. IP addresses are used to derive country information and then immediately discarded. Plausible does not track you across sites or build a profile of your behaviour. You can read their full data policy at the link above.

In addition to pageviews, the app records anonymous, aggregated counts for a small set of in-app actions so we can understand how features are used. These are not tied to any identifier:

• Which mode you switch between (ICAS, Standard, Detective)
• Whether Practice or Test mode is selected for ICAS
• Which level you select
• When a word is submitted, the mode, and whether it was correct (no record of the word itself or what you typed)
• When the Hear / Use in a sentence / Hint features are used
• Detective challenge outcomes (difficulty and correct/incorrect)
• Test completion with a bucketed accuracy band (e.g. 75-89%)
• Audio and progress-reset toggles

Data stored in your browser

SpellSpark stores your game progress (score, streak, current level, audio preference) in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time using the Reset button in the app, or by clearing site data in your browser settings.

AI-generated content

Hints, example sentences, and AI Detective challenges are generated by sending the target word to Mistral AI's API. Only the word and a difficulty level are sent — nothing identifying you. The responses are returned to your browser and not stored on our servers.

SpellSpark is provided free of charge for educational purposes only. By using this site, you agree to the following:

• The site is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantee as to the accuracy, completeness, quality, or availability of the content or service.
• AI-generated content may occasionally be incorrect, misleading, or include errors despite our best efforts. Use your own judgment when learning from it.
• We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the service at any time, without notice.
• The site is intended for personal, non-commercial use. Automated scraping, abuse of the AI endpoints, or attempts to circumvent rate limits are not permitted.
• To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of this site shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the service.
